Gail’s Hamsterley 10k

Run reports
Gail Robinsons race report from Hamsterley 10k.... Well I did say I would write the run report for the Hamsterley Forest 10k so here goes. Firstly I apologise for the delay; a certain BBQ and a trip to Wembley kinda got in the way. However, being late with the report means I can mention the latest results to come from the event, but let's start at the beginning... Ben & I chose to enter this event only a few weeks ago, it sounded lovely; a trail run through Hamsterley Forest, I imagined running 'through' the forest but no, we ran along a road and back! To make it feel different the road was gravel tracks in parts. I also imagined maybe having to navigate my way around the odd tree…

NYSD Track + Field Report by Paul

Run reports
Five go to Darlo A lack of kit and safety pins didn't stop 5 intrepid Striders from attending the first NYSD on Tuesday. (you can never bring too many safety pins to events of this nature). Katie Abel, Vicky Meaby and Kate Butterworth represented the ladies whilst Paul Johnson and Michael Burke were the two gents. Everyone did either 1 or 2 events - with good runs in the 1500 metres for Katie and Michael - and solid jumps in the triple jump for Kate and Paul. Performance of the night though went to Vicky with first place in the women's Javelin. If anyone else fancies a go at track and field then the next event takes place on May 2nd at Middlesbrough.

New 50 club member

Run reports
It’s a holiday weekend and parkrunners were out in force throughout the country meaning a record national attendance of over 120,600 athletes completing an event.  Hand in hand with that goes record attendances at many individual events such as Keswick and Bideford where there were Striders in attendance. Tees Barrage also saw a new record attendance including 28 Striders and new PBs for Teresa Parker, Drew Smallwood and Leah Fletcher. Of the 13 Striders who ran Albert Park, Sam Johnston continued his sequence of PBs and Rachael Hall added another one to her list. I always feel any 80%+ age grading is worth a mention – well done Caroline Horton. There were Striders at lots of other locations including Stewart Park, Hartlepool, Newcastle and Ayr. At Penrith Finlay Pennington grabbed…

Mermaid 10k race report

Run reports
There was another superb turn out and heaps of pb's at our 7th league race. The Mermaid 10k started just behind the Mermaid pub in Marske. Beginning with 2 laps of the housing estate, goodness knows what the locals thought when they saw a few hundred people flying past their houses. ? It soon moved on to the coast road towards Redcar for 2 laps of the prom and coast road. Safe to say there was mixed reviews of the course, but one thing we can all agree on is how fast it was. The hard training paid off with some massive pb's by some and others pleased to see their official times had taken a few seconds off theirs - they all count just the same.?? The race was…

150 for Sam

Run reports
Twenty seven Striders, many armed with collection buckets to aid with the AED fund appeal, attended Tees Barrage parkrun in ideal weather conditions. Sarah Winter did the double by collecting a PB and being first female finisher. Sam Johnston also had cause for a double celebration by completing his 150th parkrun in a new PB for the course. Lindsey Spires, Claire Taylor, Rachael Hall, Leah Fletcher and Michelle Hart all took advantage of the conditions to set their new PBs. Phil Swash joined the one club. Elsewhere, we had athletes at Redcar, Stewart Park, Hartlepool, Sunderland, Northallerton and Hackworth where Katie Abel took 3rd female finisher and also set a new Striders record for that course. Gavin Morley grabbed a new PB at Albert Park – there have now been…

Five Striders hit the hills of Sedgefield where Jill Abel, Keith Evans, Katie Abel and Michael Fawcett all raced to PBs, with Katie also being third female finisher. Thirsk 10 Mile Race Report

Run reports
My race report for Thirsk .. hope you enjoy! A sea of green and blue took to the country lanes of Thirsk this morning for the Thirsk 10 mile road race, a largely flat and fast course. The stakes were high with it being a league race, and the added spice of the first striders to play their jokers for the event added to the occasion. Despite being battered by winds for much of the race, a large contingent of striders still managed to post new PB's - a very encouraging sign given the conditions. Tom Day and Sarah Winter were the first male + female finished. In 2nd was Finlay Pennington + Caroline Horton, and 3rd went to Andrew Laverick + Katie Abel. As well as finishing 2nd Caroline…

100 and counting

Run reports
The headline this week goes to Julia Coleby as she completed her 100th parkrun at Tees Barrage. You had a feeling before the start of the Tees Barrage parkrun that the conditions were set for a quick one and it did not disappoint with 58 people recording best times. That included 12 of the 36 Striders! So congratulations go to Kelly Atherton, Gavin Morley, Suzanne Brodie, Jan Wilkinson, Mark Watson, Darren Smart, Shaun Fletcher, Helen McIlvenny, Andy Johnston, Finlay Pennington, Paul Johnson and David Fender. David and Paul were locked in a bit of a battle as they finished 2nd and 3rd male – Sarah Winter was 3rd female finisher. Liz Simpson, complete with an ample supply of cakes, completed her 200th run. Elsewhere, there was a Strider at Albert…

Run reports
Northallerton parkrun welcomed three new Striders to their event for the first time this week and one of those, Katie Abel, romped around to be the first female finisher. Vicky Meaby and Kate Butterworth selected Hartlepool to do their first ever parkrun. Elsewhere there were PBs aplenty – Kelly Atherton at Albert Park, Michael Fawcett at Sedgefield, Gavin Morley, Richard Whitehouse, Andy Johnston and Ben Robinson at Tees Barrage and tourist of the week Michelle Hedley at Keswick. Viv Murphy became our newest member of the 200 club at Tees Barrage just pipping Liz Simpson to the post. Liz now just needs to find 3 seconds to celebrate in style next week – oh, and some cake of course!
