The Striders York takeover

For around four months lots of Striders have been getting up extra early on Sundays and pounding the streets to get the miles in. There was only one difference this Sunday, albeit a rather big one. This was race day - the day we had been excited and nervous about for so long. Porridge eaten and some last minute checks… number yes… kit yes…. fuel yes… shoes yes…. and it was time to leave. For a moment, it looked like Ste B tactic for coming first was to try and run over everyone he was picking up, but he did inform us this was just his normal way of driving – be warned!! A Striders Sunday social run with 57,000 other people

Official results say 25 Striders ran the Great North Run, but add on those who joined since getting a GNR place, so not registered as a Strider, or those who ran is disguise (not that we would condone number swapping of course) and there were loads more running the 13.1miles from Newcastle to South Shields. The Striders bus left club HQ nice and early for an easy trip up to Newcastle. We had a mixture of first timers and those who are now part of the GNR furniture. The last part of the journey into Newcastle city centre was along the first half of the route, just to get us even more excited! A message from Fiona S about the open water swimming... Hi All. Looking forward to Saturday for our Open Water swimming session. Starts 11.30am at Jacksons Wharf, Hartlepool Marina TS24 0XN. Bring hat & goggles, towel & warm layers for afterwards! There's an event starting at 12 so hang around & join in the fun (you can swim again later!!). Morning everyone, After a long weekend, I'm sure you're all ready to go with running this evening? Here are tonight's sessions Sub 22: Will be led by Paul. 22-25: Will be led by Steve and Liz. 25-27: Will be doing mile intervals with Cat. 27-30: Will be doing an Indian file relay session on the track with David. 30-33: Fiona will be leading a hills session. 33+ and progression: Helen will be leading sprint intervals. Thursday 24th August training sessions

Good morning, We have a reduced number of sessions going on at the club this evening due to the fact Helen is leading a session at Stewarts Park for those who would like to practise for the NYMAC relays next week. If you are going to join the group at the park, please meet at the Captain Cook birthplace museum building (start of parkrun course) at 6.30pm. The sessions at the club are as follows: Cat will be running an interval session. Fiona is leading a social run, suitable for different paces but no slower than 12 minute mile pace. Loop backs/ longer loops will be used to accommodate faster runners. Lucy will lead a session on the track, suitable for different paces. See you all later.

Sessions at the club tonight are as follows: Sub 22: (Paul J) 10K with 20 x 1 minute fast, 1 min slow 22-25: (Liz) steps session in Ropner Park 25-27: (Cat) 5 mile tempo run (possible option for 3 mile route) 27-30: (Caroline) mile repeats 30-33: (Fiona) 4 mile trail run. Message from Fiona S about open water swim afternoon.... There are 2 dates for the open water swim afternoon of 27th Aug 11-12 or on 2nd Sept which co-incides with this Hartlepool festival starting at 12. Special price for us is £10 with wetsuit hire (£5 if you have your own). The session will include coached support from Matt Turnbull (a qualified coach) and there will be safety kyack's on the Marina too. We will go with the most people's preference & need you weight (in KG's if you want to hire a wetsuit). Who's in? ???‍♀️

Good morning, Here are tonight's sessions: (Sub 22) which will be led by Paul are doing a speed session. (22-25) which will be led by Caroline are doing 800m repeats. (25-27) will be doing a 6 mile tempo run with Cat. (27-30) led by Angela, will be doing a hills session. (30-33) which will be led by Lucy, will be doing a pyramid session. (33+) will be doing drills and hills with Helen. It's forecast to be 20 degrees and sunny at 6pm/7pm so would recommend bringing water!

Cleveland Way relay race report by Tara and Chris... Its 5am on Sunday 25th June 2017, the dog has kept us up most of the night and the alarm is about to go off to tell us to get up and ready. Ahead lies 18 hours of running for our two teams, luckily no-one is having to run all of it… Its glorious sunshine in Whitby we’re told, although not convinced as it looks like it’s about to rain in Stockton. There’s just time for a quick wash and to get dressed in our Sunday best (aka shorts, vest and running shoes).
