Meet the Striders welfare team

Club News
As part of the last members survey you told us you didn't know much about our welfare team. Hopefully the information below gives you more of an understanding. They can be contacted at club nights or by emailing striderswelfare@gmail.com. We have also recently updated our code of conduct. This is the guidelines which we should all be following to help keep Striders a friendly and supportive environment and ensure the smooth running of the club. Why do we have welfare officers? Firstly, because UK Athletics (UKA) advise that “Within athletics or running club ALL club officers and committee members have a responsibility to uphold the UKA and England Athletics’ welfare policies and procedures, to adhere to good practice and to respond to any suspected breaches. It is strongly recommended that every athletics…

Parkrun report 27 April

Run reports
We'll begin, as always, at the barrage. 32 Striders took part - with Tracy Bradburn continuing her excellent run of form by recording a 3rd pb in as many weeks. It was a good day for the men with Striders in positions 3 to 6. Of those, Jamie Bentley and Ben Warwick took 44 seconds and 1 minute respectively off previous pb times. Great going guys. Sarah Winter was second female finisher. Adam, Angela, David M, Julia C, Lisa P, Sue R and Viv all volunteered. Elsewhere, we had pb's for Andrew Hall and Phillip Baines at Albert Park. Fiona Shaw pb'd at Ayr as did Janice Long at Stewart Park. Katie Abel and Andrew Laverick do seem to like the coast. After recent pb's at Redcar they did the…

Cleveland Way Relay update. (23rd June)

Club News
Hi, have attached the google docs sheet to show what legs people have asked for / been nominated for so far. If people want to add their name you should be able to, or post here and I will update it. We can double up on the runs or have two teams. We also need a few people who are happy to be support vehicles - dropping people off, picking people up and being there incase of emergency. So far Liz Jordan and Jerry have offered to help after their legs. Reccee's It would be good to do reccee runs over the next couple of months. I know Andrew Laverick, Michael Burke, and others are happy to help out with the reccee runs. It also helps with planning so that…

Track and field report 23 April

Run reports
It was a more low-key affair for Tuesday's second athletics meeting at Middlesbrough. Katie, Antony, Scott and myself representing the club. First up was the Discus. In a huge competition, Scott won the men's senior event with a throw around the 26 metre mark. Good work Scott. Katie was competing in an unbelievably strong woman's competition. (The first 3 ladies throwing longer than Scott) She did really well, and after some technical advice from Scott, got a personal best of just under 13 metres. Next up was the 100 metres. Scott, a very successful sprinter in his youth, went off in heat 1 with the elites. He recorded a speedy time of just under 13 seconds. Antony had recorded a sub 30 second 200 metre time the previous week. On…

Parkrun 22 April report

Training
It was a glorious day on Saturday - with 343 runners, including 39 Striders, enjoying a pleasant parkrun at the barrage. Antony Hamling, fresh from his track exploits, got a new pb. We had 3 other Striders who have hit a real purple patch. The first of these was Tracy Bradburn. Following on from a Stewart Park pb last week, Tracy took a big chunk off her barrage best time. Nice one Tracy. Last month Lucy Owens recorded a decent pb at the barrage. This time she lowered it by over 30 seconds. Must be all that new found coaching knowledge, eh Lucy? Andy Johnston had recorded a first ever sub 22 at the barrage just 2 weeks ago. On Saturday that was bettered by a further 11 seconds. Andy…
