Parkrun 26 October report

Run reports
It was raining cats and dogs (not Harley) at the barrage on Saturday. 25 Striders braved the elements. Beth Dang had ran well at training on Thursday. Her reward was a new pb. Lee Buckle also recorded a new pb. Amy Burton took the plunge and ran her first ever parkrun. The previous week saw Chloe Turner, Sam Johnston, James Boynton, Tom Day and Michael Meggs run personal bests. Julia C, Helen J and Gareth M volunteered. At Albert Park Emily Palmer was first female home - notching a pb in the process. Good work Emily. Ian Saul got a new pb at Sedgefield. The previous week saw pb's for Suzanne Brodie at Sedgefield and Philip Baines at Redcar. We also had runners at Inverness, Linford Wood, Fell foot -…

12 October parkrun report

Run reports
It was a pleasant autumn morning at the barrage - and 33 Striders were among an attendance of 329. There were pb's for Claire Taylor, Beth Dang and Robert Parker. Robert beating his previous best by an impressive 1 minute 43 seconds. Kirsty Alderthay completed her 200th parkrun and Sue Russell her, erm, 51st... Sarah Winter was 2nd female finisher, with myself and Michael Meggs 2nd and 3rd respectively for the men. Kris A, me, Andy J, Jennie J, Andy L, Neil M, Robert P, Adam, Gail R, Ben R, Liz S, Yvonne, Katy W and Sarah W all volunteered. I received a telephone call from matron early on Saturday morning. My dear friend Dave Fender was in a terrible state after hearing rumours that Harley was about to return…

5 October parkrun report

Run reports
Conditions were nigh on perfect for running on Saturday - with plenty of parkrun pb's and milestones that followed. Of the 44 Striders at the barrage, Doreen Morris, Tristan Keates, Beth Dang, Philip Baines, David Edwards, Antony Hamling, Kay Stokes, Stephen Wood and Michael Meggs recorded new pb's. Kay's time bagged her an age grading of 84.16 and put her 10th on the barrage all-time age-grading chart. To put it into perspective, it was a higher age grading than course record holder Greg Jayasuriya got. Keep up the good work Kay. I sneaked 3rd male finisher. Debbie Edwards celebrated her 50th parkrun and Helen Johnston her 200th. This, of course, meant cake and coffee at the Talpore afterwards. Angela C, Sarah G, Beverley H and Claire T helped with volunteering…

28 September parkrun report

Run reports
The early rain cleared away and it was quite a nice morning at the barrage on Saturday. 19 Striders ran but I couldn't spot any new pb's. Following several weeks of failed fitness tests Dave Fender was finally given the nod. He could have been forgiven for easing himself back gently - but Dave always gives 100%. (except when he's giving blood) His reward was a third place finish. Good work Sir. Angela C, Helen J, Andy J, Adam P and Sue R helped with volunteering.  Nine Striders ran at Sedgefield where Fiona Shaw's impressive parkrun form continued with a new pb. Nathan Welburn reached run number 100 at Stewart Park. Christian Oxley ran at South Oxhey. (Watford) His name appeared in bold on the consolidated club report - which…

21 September parkrun report

Run reports
Another glorious day for running on Saturday. There were Striders all over the place - with the bulk spread between the barrage, Stewart Park and Darlington. The barrage saw Gareth Maloney get a new pb with Philip B and Nigel R volunteering. At 5am on Saturday Dave Fender pulled the emergency cord next to his bed. Matron rushed into the room and a tearful Dave recounted another bad dream about the parkrun. He was subsequently deemed unfit to run. 12 Striders made the trip to Darlington South in search of league points. The course is a picturesque 3 loops of the park. One of those running at Darlington was Liz Simpson - celebrating her 300th parkrun and coming in as 2nd female finisher. Nice work Liz. Tom Day got a…

Bright with a cool breeze - these were the conditions for 29 Striders at the barrage. Claire Taylor, Kris Allen and Michael Meggs were in superb form - each getting all-course pb's. Sam Johnston joined them with a barrage best time. Helen Mcilvenny was 3rd female finisher. Philip B, Julia C, David M, Viv M, Ben R and Sue R volunteered. Dave Fender failed his fitness test and didn't run. At Albert Park Emily Palmer was 2nd female finisher. Sedgefield saw pb's for both Janice Long and Fiona Shaw - whilst Jill Abel pb'd at Northallerton. We also had runners at Hackworth, Seaton, Bramley, Armley and Tyne Green. Angela Cox was the Striders representative at the first ever parkrun at York's Castle Howard. A special mention to Tom Day and…

A bumper weekend of running… parkrun’s, Great Tees 10k and GNR

Run reports
It was a bumper weekend of running - with parkruns, The Great Tees 10k and The Great North Run all taking place. By my reckoning just under 100 club members took part in one of these 3 events - a fantastic turnout. We'll start off with parkruns where Ian Saul and Christian Oxley got new pb's at Albert Park. Christian inching ever closer to a sub 20 minute time. Suzanne Brodie pb'd at Durham, as did Claire Taylor and Sarah Griffiths at Sedgefield. Sedgefield was also the venue for Tom Day to complete his 100th run. There were further pb's for Fiona Shaw at Northallerton and James Boynton at Darlington South. Jamie Bentley and Simon Russell got pb's at Harlepool with Jamie notching 3rd place in the process.  We also…

31 August parkrun report

Run reports
30 Striders at the barrage where Gareth Maloney, Robert Parker and David Edwards got new pb's and Sarah Winter was 3rd female finisher. Neil M, Viv M and David M helped with volunteering. Dave Fender failed his fitness test and didn't run. Albert Park saw a pb for John Corvesor whilst Emily Palmer was 3rd female finisher. Simon Russell led the field home at a parkrun somewhere in the local area and Katie Abel eased herself back to parkrunning at Sedgefield. Runners too at Redcar and Hartlepool. It was the day of the Royal Signal relays - and as a warm up 7 of us did the Herrington Country parkrun at Houghton-Le-Spring. Tom Day and Michael Burke viewed it less of a warm up and more of a chance to…

24 August parkrun report

Run reports
Last weeks report - sorry for the delay in posting. I could mention that 34 Striders ran at the barrage on Saturday - or report that Janice Long got a new pb and Sarah Winter was 2nd female finisher. Maybe it would be nice to say that Suzanne, Colin, Keran, David M, Ben R, Gail, Liz S, Helen W and Sarah W helped with volunteering. However, all these things pale into insignificance with the main event - the welcome return of Dave Fender. Elsewhere Kirsten Wilson ran her 50th parkrun at Albert Park. Finlay Pennington got a new pb at Catterick as did Ian Saul at Sedgefield. Runners too at Peacehaven, Sewerby, Darlington South, Hackworth and Doncaster. Paul J

17 August parkrun report

Run reports
30 Striders were present at a bright and breezy barrage on Saturday - where conditions were very much to the liking of Karen Clarke and Sarah Griffiths. Both ladies running all-course personal best times. Splendid! Kay Stokes was 3rd lady finisher and I notched 3rd for the men. Suzanne B, Colin F, Sarah G, Beverley H, Neil M, Gavin M, Elizabeth M and Claire T were the Striders among the volunteers. Throughout the run I heard encouraging comments from marshals and fellow club members. At the finish, Julia, on barcode scanning, was there with a smile and a "well done". These small acts of kindness are very much appreciated and make the event what it is. On a slightly more downbeat note Dave Fender once again failed his fitness test…
