Paul’s weekend report

Run reports
It was the final cross-country of the season on Sunday. More on that later. For Saturday's parkrun's 27 Striders chose Albert - where Glenn Cooper and Phil Baines were feeling the need for speed. Both came away with all-course personal bests. Nice work chaps. Simon Russell and Stevie Cooper got 70%+ age-gradings. Elsewhere, Hartlepool saw Sarah Cotton also get an all-course pb. Well done Sarah. Helen and Daniel Mcilvenny recorded pb's at Sedgefield. Helen was 2nd lady to finish. Craig Nelson and Chloe turner got new pb's at Darlington South Park as did Mike Cleasby at Jubilee.  Suzanne Brodie completed what could possibly be the first ever Japanese parkrun for a Strider. Suzanne's run at the Futakotamgawa event in Tokyo was followed by the Tokyo marathon the next day. Hope…

And it’s a wrap.. today was the last cross country of the season held at Whitby. The weather conditions were perfect as were the fish & chips afterward. Well done Emma F, Izzy, Liz, Emily & Nicola for the ladies, Jonathan, Matty & Jason for our men.   👏👏👏 Final results are awaited but we believe our ladies will finish in one of the top three positions. A big well done to all our runners today, at the XC, local runs, Saturn Runs, half marathons & marathons. We spread ourselves far and wide. #teamstriders👏👏👏 If anyone fancies the relays at South Park, they take place 26th March. Further details will be posted closer to the event.

League run #2. Hartlepool parkrun

Run reports
25 Happy smiling striders arrived in Seaton Carew this morning for the second league run of 2023 - Hartlepool Parkrun. The smiles began to drop as car doors were opened and the February seaside weather was felt. Still the striders took to the sea front to begin warm up runs in preparation for the event and to prevent frost bite. Our happy group then huddled together like penguins for the group photo before the start . Weather conditions remained poor with an 18mph head wind making it feel even colder and at one point a spattering of icy rain , there was some relief from the wind once the turn point was reached and this also gave everyone the opportunity to see fellow striders at different stages of the event…

A large group of Striders gathered at the Tees Barrage on Saturday. It was to reminisce about the good old days and run the old parkrun route again. Conditions were perfect and an enjoyable run ensued. A few stayed on for drinks at the Talpore afterwards. Dave Fender - undisputed King of the Barrage - failed his fitness test and was unable to attend. Elsewhere, Jane Stohrer and Tom Ramsey produced exceptional runs at Hartlepool. Jane (70%+ age-grading) recorded an all-course pb. Tom also got an all-course pb in a speedy sub-19-minute time. Great work folks. Albert Park saw Emma Fleming (70%+ a-g) and Izzy Morgan pick up new pb's. Emma and Izzy were also second and third ladies to finish. Glenn Cooper achieved a 70%+ a-g. Chloe Turner pb'd…

Run reports
Plenty happening this weekend. There was Jill Abel's 450th parkrun at Sedgefield, a cross-country event at Richmond and the first of the 2023 club league races at Ripon. I'd like to start, however, with a bit of good news for one of our members. Abby Barker got a nice email recently confirming that she's been selected for the England team (in her age-group) for the England Athletics Age Group Masters Championships - at The Chester Half-Marathon in May. That's a great achievement Abby - well done. Back to Sedgefield and Jill was joined by 36 other Striders. It was nice to see Debbie Edwards complete another parkrun and Ben and Gail giving their support to the runners. Simon Russell was doing his 100th parkrun and Sue and Sonny Russell were…
