Ormesby Hall was the venue for the latest NYSD Cross Country event on Sunday – with 21 Striders making the trip.
With Liz and Gerry away it was down to Tom and Jonathan to get there early doors and put up the team tent. Taking a mere one and a half hours – I’m reliably informed it was one of the quickest ever times for a Striders tent assembly.
A dry January meant course conditions were good. (It had been a hard slog the previous year in the snow) With a gentle breeze blowing it was soon time for the start.
The ladies were first off at 12.00. Our team consisted of Amy, Cat, Jill, Katie, Liz, Lucy, Nicola, Rachel H, Sophie and Suzanne. Running a slightly shorter route than the men they performed really well – notching 5th place overall.
The men set off half an hour later on a 9.6k route. Anthony, David H, Finlay, Jason, Jonathan, Lee H, Mathew, Scott, Stephen K, Tom D and myself making up the team. We finished 7th out of 13 teams – which is not too shabby. A slightly higher finish might have been achieved if me old pal Dave Fender had run. Unfortunately, Matron had deemed him unfit to travel.
When everyone was in, tea and coffee were drunk, stodgy cake was eaten and the tent was dismantled. Many hands made light work of this operation and it only took one hour. (another record I believe) Thanks to Tom and Jonathan for organizing and the adventure continues at Richmond in February.

Thanks Katie. However, my apologies to Jonathan for the description of the post race cake. It should have read: ‘a delicious light and fluffy confection – a sheer delight to the taste buds’
Let’s not over do it eh
thank you Paul, you’re a Gentleman
