Whitby Cross Country

Number 2 in the cross country season : Whitby : a favourite among some of us who have been doing these for a few years. As the number of people coming to the cross country continues to increase ( which is great) and most people were up for fish and chips in Whitby after we decided to book a bus, so 15 of us met at club 09.45 with several more meeting us there.
The forecast was cold & windy but dry until mid afternoon, so when it started raining before we even got there we knew it was going to be ‘fun’. What came next was hail rain and sleet with some very nice rainbows thrown in and occasional dry spells just to try and lure us into a false sense of security!! Added to this the wind kept everyone busy trying to hold onto the tent which was threatening to blow away.
Ladies race started in hail so quite a bit of girly squealing going on then down to serious running through some very slippery mud (they even had the rope out for the hill today). As always great running by everyone in testing conditions but everyone always cheerful too.
Next the men took to the mud while Jerry valiantly hung onto the tent while us girls got into some warm dry gear. Some incredible running here too and after three laps of the course there were some seriously muddy legs on show.
A quick pack of all the gear then back to the bus for a trip into Whitby for well deserved and appreciated fish and chips to warm us all up. Heading back home and predictably the rain stopped and the sun came out!
The only other thing to say is great running everyone and hope to see you at Preston Park next Sunday. Jerry and I will try and dry out the tent etc in time.
