Oh we do like to be beside the seaside.

Home / Run reports / Oh we do like to be beside the seaside.

It wasn’t quite bucket and spade weather but Striders had a trip to the seaside. The Yorkshire Coast 10k in Scarborough wasn’t a league race, but it might as well have been with the number of us running.

Another stupidity early Sunday morning bus left club HQ full of sleepy Striders. Although it was a lie-in compared to the day before for those of us who had been up even earlier to enter the Brass Monkey. Bus manager Helen (thanks for organising) was running a very strict establishment, not letting anyone on the bus before they had paid their fare. ?

Arriving in plenty of time we headed to the Spa complex to hide from the wind and rain caused by the remains of Storm whatever stupid name they have given it this time. Unfortunately it wasn’t a nice relaxing spa so we still had to run.

The out and back route heads along the seafront passing the arcades and seafront entertainment before looping through the park and the Sealife then back along the seafront to the Spa. The nice and flat course is brilliant for anyone aiming for a pb, although a strong head wind in places made the conditions much harder. Weather man Adam miss-informed us that it would be a side wind, but we’ll let him off as it was behind us on the way back.

Some of us had chosen a more social pace for the race and spent most of it chatting and most probably annoying other runners around us who were working hard for a good time – at least we demonstrated the social aspect of Striders. ? However, some Striders were running very hard with some excellent times and PB’s smashed – well done everyone.

After refuelling with breakfast in the Spa cafe we started the long journey home. Our star baker Liz J treat us all to some more lovely cake, and it wasn’t even a cross country, we are spoiled! – thanks again!

Another successful trip for team Striders.
