My race report for Thirsk .. hope you enjoy!

A sea of green and blue took to the country lanes of Thirsk this morning for the Thirsk 10 mile road race, a largely flat and fast course. The stakes were high with it being a league race, and the added spice of the first striders to play their jokers for the event added to the occasion.

Despite being battered by winds for much of the race, a large contingent of striders still managed to post new PB’s – a very encouraging sign given the conditions. Tom Day and Sarah Winter were the first male + female finished. In 2nd was Finlay Pennington + Caroline Horton, and 3rd went to Andrew Laverick + Katie Abel. As well as finishing 2nd Caroline also finished in an impressive 3rd place in her age category – a brilliant achievement.
Plenty of encouragement and team work between striders helped members through the course – reaffirming the strong sense of togetherness we have as a club.

Runners were presented with a nice purple + yellow t-shirt for their efforts, and there was a selection of running items on offer at the finish for people to purchase too.

Once the last strider was cheered in, everyone headed back to their cars, some went into Thirsk to watch the Middlesbrough vs Manchester United match whilst others headed straight home to relax after a hard days work.

Whilst the result of the football was a negative, the turnout from Striders was the exact opposite. It’s so pleasing to see so many members take part in these events, and enjoy themselves too. After all, that really is the main reason of the club league.

Thanks for yet another fun filled brilliant day Striders – looking forward to the many others we will all have in the future!

Sam
