Let’s take a trip

Run reports
Stockton Striders were represented at eight different parkrun events this weekend. Locally, 19 Striders set off into the fog at Tees Barrage with Suzanne Brodie emerging from it in a new best time.  There were a further three Striders at Albert park. Neil McGee had a good morning as he too PB’ed.  However, Stewart park seems to have been the place to go for a PB with three, Paula and Chris Newton plus Gail Robinson. There appears to have been a boys on tour event at Hartlepool with seven Striders, four of them being first timers and PBs for Adam Potter and Stephen Boddy. Elsewhere, Emily Chaytor was 2nd female at Sedgefield, Mike Cleasby continued his tourism quest with a trip to Hackworth whilst Caroline and David Horton had a…

It was slippery out there.

Run reports
It’s that time of the year again where parkrun events, unfortunately, sometimes have to be cancelled at short notice due to the weather. A short shower of rain and an accompanying slight rise in the temperature in the hour before the start did just enough to allow the athletes to tip toe around the Tees Barrage course. Not an ideal day for a fast time but of the 22 Striders, Katie Abel clearly loved the conditions and set a new PB. Striders also provided five, very well wrapped up, volunteers. It is hard to tell who – although I suspect it was probably Christian Oxley – but we also had the 100th different registered Strider complete the course.     Locally, we also had six Striders at Albert park and just…

Your club needs you

News
The club has been going for almost two years and on Tuesday 22nd November @ 8pm we are having our 2nd AGM.  The club was initially setup by a small group of volunteers who have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure we have a safe and professional club to train at.  Over the last 18 months that core group has become smaller whilst the club has been getting bigger. For the club to operate we need our coaches and a team of people to support them and club, beyond what happens on a club night. I have had the privilege to be vice chair for 6 months and chair for 18 months and work with some amazing people.  However I am no longer in a position to be able to…

X/C week?

Run reports
A quieter week numbers wise on the parkrun front, maybe in preparation for the cross country that afternoon. Albert park hosted eight Striders. Tracy Bradburn PB’ed for the second consecutive week and Claire Wilson joined the parkrun world with her first parkrun. It’s only a number – but quite a big one – as David Horton completed his 750th parkrun kilometre. Not to be outdone, Caroline Horton was 1st female finisher. Locally we also had 14 Striders at Tees barrage, two at Stewart park and two at Sedgefield where Darren Mitchell set himself a new best time. A little further afield we had an athlete at Riverside and a first timer at Harrogate.   However, tourist of the week was Diane Johnson who became the first Strider to fly the…

Winter arrives

Run reports
Winter arrived at parkrun this weekend and the fresher conditions clearly suited a lot of people with PBs galore. Our biggest turnout, 17, was at Albert park with a couple of first timers and PBs for Tracy Bradburn, Veronica Taylor, Michelle Hart and Helen McIlvenny. Sarah Winter did her difficult second parkrun whilst at the same time starting her tourism quest. Segdefield saw nine Striders, four as first timers including Mike Cleasby as he bagged his 17th different location. Rachel Carr and Antony Hamling PB’ed.    Stewart park hosted seven Striders, amongst them Adam Potter and Chris Newton appeared to have a close battle and both set PBs. Another close battle saw Ian Howse pipped on the finish straight. No doubt about tourist of the week – Angela Cox travelled…

Striders on tour

Run reports
We had Striders running at quite a lot of locations this week. Many of the tourists were attending that location for their first time. We had one athlete at Carlisle, Hartlepool, York and Sedgefield, – where Joanne Ryce set a new PB -plus a jogger at Dalby Forest. Two Striders attended Lancaster and a further three runners at both Stewart park and Durham. A further six completed Albert park where Paul Stephensons summer of marathon training was rewarded with a new best time. Tees Barrage saw 19 Striders and PBs for Lisa McGee, Joseph Staton and Jason Pattison. Welcome to Sarah Winter who joined the parkrun party with her first ever event now completed.

Let’s go somewhere different

Run reports
This week proved a popular one for trying out a new parkrun location with five Striders choosing this option. At Sedgefield Paul Stephenson was a first timer on a day that they had a record turnout. Adam Potter and Stephen Boddy did the same at Hartlepool. Whilst it looks like it might have been a close sprint up the hill at Temple Newsam to finish their first trip there for Caroline and David Horton. On Teesside it was a nice still day for a run and of the ten Striders at Albert park three - Tracy Bradburn (consecutive week but different parkrun), Lisa McGee and Rachel Carr - took advantage to better their times. Another big turnout at Tees Barrage of 21 athletes. Lisa and Jason Pattison made it two…

50:50

Run reports
If last week was quiet, this Saturday was a busy parkrun week for the Striders. Two Striders joined the 50 club this week. Nigel Radcliffe collected it at Tees Barrage and Mike Cleasby joined by completing his first visit to Newcastle. Plaudits also go to Tracy Bradburn, Dean Philips, Lisa Pattison and Jason Pattison all of whom set new personal bests at Tees Barrage. Close to home there were 25 Striders at Tees Barrage, 11 at Albert park and two at Stewart park. Paul Johnson travelled to London to do his first run at Highbury Fields however, tourist of the week goes to Viv Murphy for completing Castlehaven in sunny West Cork, Ireland.

parkrun

Run reports
It was a quieter week on the parkrun front for Striders this week with so much happening he following day. Seven Striders took to Albert park. It was a first appearance for Paul Johnson and he took the opportunity to set a quick time, whilst Lisa McGee grabbed herself a new PB. The alternative route at Tees Barrage saw nine Striders running, and nearly as many volunteering, on a nice still day along the riverside. Mark Brown took advantage of the conditions to set himself a new PB.   Elsewhere, we had a runner at Stewart park, Hartlepool and Darlington where Mike Cleasby set a new PB.

Run reports
We have been away for a bit, so first things first and big congratulations to David Holmes who joined the 50 club a couple of weeks ago. I am pretty sure there will have been a flood of PBs in that period too, you know who you are, congrats to all. This week saw five Striders at Albert park with Michelle Hart storming around to a new PB. At Tees Barrage 12 Striders toed the line and a few more volunteered. Liz Simpson and Helen McIlvenny took second and third female home whilst both Michelle Station and Joseph Station took advantage of the ideal conditions along the riverside to post new PBs.   Elsewhere, we had four representatives at Stewart park. Neil McGee took a first trip to the Darlington…
